Lloyd E. Eilander, 73, of Newton died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 12, at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials in Lloyd’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Berl and Marie (Reynolds) Eilander, he was born July 8, 1933, in Newton. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Sept. 6, 1957, he married Lois Stier in Kansas City, Mo. He was a truck driver for Merchants Transfer for 27 years and retired in 1986. Before full retirement, he also was employed by Longdin’s Transfer until 1992. He enjoyed camping, working in his yard, spending time working in his garage and playing with his grandchildren. He was a life-long resident of Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Newton; three sons, David (and Tonya) Robinson and Lloyd E. (and Kandi) Eilander Jr., all of Newton, and Leonard (and Sheri) Stier of Grinnell; a daughter, Carol Robinson of Newton; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (and Joyce) Eilander of Albia; three sisters, Barbara (and Chris) Smith, and Sherry (and Gene) Wharff, all of Newton, and Cinda Shaver of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty McDonald; a brother, Sylvester Eilander; and three sons in infancy.
