Leach, Amanda Violet (Ketterman)Amanda Violet Ketterman, was born in Indiana, July 29th, 1849, and died in Colfax, Iowa, June 27th, 1920, aged 70 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
She was united in marriage to John Thomas Leach, at Waterloo, Iowa, August 10th, 1866. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. The eldest son died at the age of ten years. The other three sons and four daughters survive her.
Mr. and Mrs. Leach settled in Black Hawk county, Iowa, and came to Jasper county in 1873, and continued to reside here until death.
Mrs. Leach was baptised when a girl but 10 years of age, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church. She remained a member of the Methodist church until 1910, when to be with her husband, she transferred her membership to the Baptist church. Two years later, just eight years ago, her husband died, and since then she has resided, the greater part of the time, in Colfax, where she has endeared herself to many. Mrs. Leach was also a member of the Woman's Relief Corps.
She leaves three sons, four daughters, twenty-five grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one sister, and many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. All the children except one daughter, Mrs. Alma Galbreth, of Reeder, N.Dak., were present.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. W.M. Brooks.
