Wilma Sellers
August 28, 1929 - December 17, 2019

Wilma Ann Sellers, 90, of Monroe, was called “home” on December 17, 2019 at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa, with her loving family by her side.

Wilma was the daughter of Charles Carlisle (Carl) and Nellie M. (Quick) Mullins. She was born on August 28, 1929 in Newton at Skiff Memorial Hospital. Wilma graduated from Monroe High School in 1947 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) at Cedar Falls where she earned her teaching certificate. Wilma married the love of her life, Duane Sellers on October 23, 1948 in Monroe. She worked at Newton Manufacturing as a typist in the Order Department. In later years, she worked in the Sales Department at the Vernon Company and as a bookkeeper at Cargill Seed Corn Company in Monroe. In 1987, she was hired as a receptionist at Roadhaven Resort Homeowner’s Association in Apache Junction, Arizona and later was promoted to Executive Secretary for the Board of Directors at the resort, where she remained until she retired in 2000.

Wilma and Duane enjoyed a lot of good years together; especially since Duane’s retirement in 1977. They traveled throughout the United States (including Alaska) and Canada. During their travels they either drove their mobile home or pulled their Airstream camper behind them, and experienced all of the joys of camping. Many times they were with their friends and family and it always included fishing, great food and fun times. In her free time, Wilma absolutely loved to garden and could spends hours on end outside maintaining her plants and flowers.

Wilma was the proud mother of two sons, William (Bill) Sellers and Nicholas (Nick) Sellers. She was especially proud when she became the grandmother of three grandchildren, Marci (Sellers) McIlrath, Harold (Uri) Sellers and Caleb Sellers. Her pride in her grandchildren continued, as she was blessed with three great granddaughters Reagan and Rayne McIlrath of Laurel and Stella Sellers of Kansas City, and one more great granddaughter on the way in January.

Wilma is survived by her son, Bill (Mary) Sellers of Monroe; two grandchildren, Marci (Sam) McIlrath of Laurel and Caleb (Bobbi) Sellers of Kansas City; three great granddaughters, Reagan and Rayne McIlrath and Stella Sellers; her brother-in-law, Jerry Sellers of Altoona; her nephews, Chris (Kim) Sellers of Brooklyn and Greg (Sherry) Sellers of Bella Vista, AR, as well as all of her great nieces, nephews and many friends.

Wilma is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years Duane, her parents, her mother and father-in-law, her son Nick Sellers, her grandson Uri Sellers and her sister-in-law Mary Ellen Sellers.

Wilma’s entire family would like to thank the Park Centre staff for all their hard work, compassion and dedication to Wilma (and Duane), and give a special thanks and recognition to Bre James.

Wilma was an advocate of higher learning. She reminded her family that an education is something that can never be taken from any individual and will stay with you forever. She always encouraged her grandchildren to “reach for the skies”. She had quote which she adopted many years ago, “A hundred years from now it will not matter the size of house I lived in, what my bank account was or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child”.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. A public visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Uri Sellers Memorial Foundation 759 Rodeo Ave. Monroe, IA 50170. ~ The Mitchell Family Funeral Home, Marshalltown, Iowa 17 Dec 2019.
