Kathy, 68, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 14, 2019, at the Iowa Veteran’s Medical Center in Des Moines.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. A time of fellowship will follow at 11:30 a.m., in the Pence Tribute Center. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to DAR-Grinnell Chapter, ALS Association - Des Moines Chapter, Kathy’s family, or to a charity of your choosing.

Kathy Ann Jones, 68, the daughter of Donald Edward and Ruth Ann (Queen) Jones, was born January 1, 1951, in Newton. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, Class of 1969. She received her BA degree in Physical Education from the University of Northern Iowa, a BS Nursing degree from the University of Iowa and a certificate of photography from Des Moines Area Community College. Kathy had served her country with the US Army Nurse Corp, in Germany and Virginia, during the Vietnam era, retiring in 1996, after 30- years of service, as a Major in the US Army Reserve, Army, 8930th,4224th Army Hospital in Des Moines. Kathy retired in 2008, as a Registered Nurse at the Iowa Veteran’s Medical Center in Des Moines. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) as a Lifetime Member, American Legion Post #111, Disabled American Veterans, Jasper County Genealogy Society, Newton Historical Preservation Commission, Arts Council (as a board member), and a Sculpture Festival volunteer. She enjoyed genealogy, photography and to travel.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father Donald Jones.

Kathy is survived by her mother Ruth Ann Jones of Newton; her sister Nancy (Jay) Kettering of Ecuador; a nephew Matthew (Greta) Moshiri of England; great nephews: Finn, Jasper and Oscar Moshiri; and her special friend Kris Macy. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 14 Dec 2019.
