Emma Konschine’s Sorrow
Konschine, Nestor

Col. J. R. Mershon has received a cablegram from his daughter, Mrs. Emma Konschine, announcing the death of her only son, Nestor, at Moscow, Russia, on the 19th inst., (of this month), from scarlet fever. Nestor was eight years of age, and was in Newton with his parents five years ago, when he won the hearts of everybody by his sweet manners and lovely childish ways. He was eight years of age and could talk three different languages remarkably well for one of his years. He had inherited from his parents a talent for music which promised wonders in that line had his life been spared. His death is a source of profound sorrow to his aged grandfather Mershon, whose affections were peculiarly centered in his little Russian grandson. The many friends of the bereaved mother, who knew and loved her in her beautiful, happy childhood, sent to her in her home beyond the sea, their tenderest sympathy.

The cablegram from Moscow was received by J. Edw. Mershon in Des Moines on the same day that it was sent, and immediately forwarded to J. R. Mershon of this city one of the wonders of the 19th century.
