Kling, Donald

Donald W. Kling, 68, of 1308 S. 8th Ave. E., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died this morning, Sept 22, of respiratory failure at the Skiff Medical Center.

Memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. F. William Kaska, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery (He is actually buried at Sugar Grove Cemetery.)

Christian wake services will be held at Reese Chapel at 7 p.m. Sunday. Vince Waltz will lead the wake services. Visitation with the family will be held following wake services. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Saturday.

Memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of the Jasper County Historical Society will be accepted. Survivors are his wife, Eleanor; two sons, James L. of Rock Island, Ill., and Jeffrey W. of Newton; two daughters, Janna (Mrs. Steve) Birkenholtz and Junella Marie Kling, both of Newton; two grandchildren; and a brother, Robert, of Glenwood, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Kling, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, farmed and later operated Kling Excavating for many years. Later he was associated with Newton Manufacturing and Heartland Motel Brokerage, prior to his retirement.

The son of Leonard and Dorothy Wiley Kling, he was born Feb. 28, 1921 in rural Newton, attended Jasper County and Newton schools and was a 1939 graduate of Newton Community High School. He married to Eleanor Pink May 28, 1842.
