Luella June Rozendaal, 75, of Pella passed away peacefully early Monday morning December 9, 2019 at Jefferson Place. Born December 18, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, she was the youngest of four children of Fred Willis and Corlena (Van Hemert) Rozendaal.

Luella resided with her family north of Sully. She was baptized as an infant at the First Reformed Church in Sully and at age 17 made profession of faith at the Third Reformed Church in Pella.

Luella began her education at a country school north of Sully. While she was in elementary school the family moved to Pella where she subsequently graduated from Pella High School. She then attended and received a degree in cosmetology from the Americana Academy of Beauty in Des Moines. She started her career in Boone, Iowa. For leisure, bowling offered recreation, competition, friendships, and the opportunity to meet Jerry LeRoy Berglund.

On October 16, 1964, they were united in marriage at Third Reformed Church in Pella. Luella and Jerry moved to Pella and had one son, Ronald Lee, born November 2, 1967. A later move to their cabin by the river proved to be an especially enjoyable time in their lives.

Lu was a loyal employee at the Rolscreen Company for over 29 years until her retirement in 2002. Jerry was employed in construction, at the Rolscreen Company, and with the City of Pella until his health necessitated an early retirement. He passed away suddenly in January of 1994 at age 54. Following Jerry’s death, Lu faithfully provided for Ron, especially after Ron’s motorcycle accident. Lu and Ron enjoyed their time together eating out and taking many road trips in their van. They loved their mobile home in Sunrise Park and cared for each other until 2016 when Ron moved to Optimae Life Services in Newton and Lu moved to Fair Haven East. In spite of the separation and distance, they continued to enjoy van rides and sharing meals.

Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Berglund, her parents, Fred and Corlena Rozendaal, her parents-in-law, LeRoy and Lucille (Littrell) Berglund; her sister, Alma Jane Veldhuizen and a sister who died in infancy. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William Clarence and Linda Rozendaal and her brother-in law, Henry Veldhuizen.

She will be fondly remembered by her son, Ronald Berglund, his daughter, Ashton Marie Elizabeth Berglund; her nieces, nephews, and relatives, as well as her friends, neighbors and acquaintances.

Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 1:30 pm,
Van Dyk - Duven Funeral Home, Pella, Iowa.
Interment will follow in t’Lam Cemetery, Marion County, Iowa.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday at Van Dyk- Duven Funeral Home.
