November 10, 1942 ~ December 11, 2019 (age 77)

Katherine “Kathie” M. Hudson, 77, of Collins, died on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 16, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. After the service at 12:00 p.m. there will be a luncheon at the Baxter Community Center. Memorials in Kathie’s name (checks made payable to Jerry Hudson) may be left at the funeral home.

Kathie, the daughter of Robert and Maxine (Forster) Breer, was born on November 10, 1942 at St. Thomas Merry Hospital in Marshalltown. She grew up a farmer’s daughter on various farms in rural Iowa. On October 25, 1959, Kathie was united in marriage with Jerry Hudson at Ashton Chapel in rural Mingo. They have made their home in the Collins area for over 40 years. Kathie had a passion for caring for people and worked at Progress Industries in Newton for many years, retiring in 2006. She was a member of the Heritage Word of Life Church in Mitchellville.

Kathie’s love for her family and friends was evident in everything she did. She loved engaging and making connections with everyone she would encounter. She was compassionate, considerate, and given to hospitality.

Those left to honor Kathie’s memory are her husband, Jerry Hudson of Collins; children, Christine (Tenny) Hinshaw of Kellogg, Jerry Mark (Diane) Hudson of Collins, and Joseph Hudson of Ankeny; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Chase) Lucas, Ben (Carolyn) Hinshaw, Katie (Nick) Cook, Nate Hinshaw, Brian (Sarah) Hudson, Craig (Kaila) Hudson, Elizabeth (Chad) Brown, Kimberly (Nick) Otten, Jeremiah Hudson, Elijah Hudson, and Zechariah Hudson; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Carol Breer of Rhodes.
