January 13, 1936 ~ December 2, 2019 (age 83)Joyce’s memorial service will be 2 p.m., Monday, December 9th at the Kellogg First Christian Church in Kellogg.
The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a luncheon at the church.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Memorials may be left at the church on the afternoon of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. If you are mailing your memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Hotchkin Family on the envelope.
Joyce Marie Deere Hotchkin, the daughter of Fred and Opal White Deere was born on January 13, 1936, in Newton, Iowa. When she was 7 years old her mother died and her father would later marry M. Ellen Krieg. Joyce was a graduate of Newton High School in 1954.
On February 14, 1959, Joyce was united in marriage with Neil A. Hotchkin in Newton. They were blessed with five children, Scott, Van, Joneil, Sam and Rod. Joyce was a Fork Truck Driver at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg for 40+ years when she retired. She was a member of the Kellogg First Christian Church, Women’s Fellowship, Kellogg American Legion Post 355 Auxiliary. Joyce loved having all her family around, she enjoyed cooking, loved the holidays, enjoyed her ladies group on Tuesdays and she totally enjoyed driving her fork truck.
Joyce died on Monday, December 2, 2019 at MercyOne Newton Medical Center in Newton. She was 83. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Opal Deere; second mother, Pastor M. Ellen Deere; husband, Neil; daughter, Joneil Johnson; sons, Scott and Van Hotchkin; and two sisters, Colleen Hoeksema and Normalee Osland.
Those left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her daughter, Sam Hotchkin of Newton; son, Rod (Jan) Hotchkin of Torrance, California; thirteen grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 02 Dec 2019.
