Dorothy M. Gullett, 93, of Newton died on Sunday, November 24, 2019, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2019, at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the graveside with a lunch at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to MercyOne Hospice or the Kellogg Historical Society may be left at the funeral home.

Dorothy, the daughter of Moses and Ruby (Dobbs) Simpson, was born on May 5, 1926. She attended school in Kellogg where she was a member of the girl’s basketball team. Dorothy was united in marriage with Willard Gullett on August 29, 1943, in Lancaster, Missouri. They farmed in Jasper County; where Dorothy was both a homemaker and a hard-working farmer’s wife. Dorothy loved animals, both farm animals and her pets. She enjoyed bottle feeding the calves and even had a pet lamb. Dorothy was loyal about raising her American flag every morning and lowering it every night. She enjoyed music and dancing. Dorothy never knew a stranger and loved talking to everyone she met. She was a member of the Kellogg Historical Society and the Pleasantville United Methodist Church.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Bob (Linda) Gullett of Newton; granddaughter, Brenda (Shane) Illingworth of Newton; great-grandchildren, Alex and Adam Illingworth, Allie (Kyler) Garkie, Ashley Hesse, and Trent Hesse; and her great-great-granddaughter, Paisley Garkie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; granddaughter, Lisa Hesse; and two brothers, Roy and Raymond Simpson. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 24 Nov 2019
