The funeral for William Iske, Sr. was held from his late home north west of Newton Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W. Diefienbach, of the First Lutheran church of this city, gave the funeral address. The singers were: Miss Millie Hesson, Mesdames A E Hadley, O W Browning , John Tiedje, and Messrs AE Hadley and Jay Baker. Mrs Will Murdock was the accompanist, and the pall bearers were old neighbors: Messrs Chris and Ernest Griebel, Ed Hesson, August Kracht, Fred Iske and C Coker. The casket was covered with many beautiful flowers sent by sympathizing friends. Especially were the ones sent from Davenport and Nebraska very elegant. It was a large funeral. Many relatives came from other towns and friends of the family drove many miles to pay the last respects to one who had long been their friend and neighbor.

William Iske was born in Helminghousen, Germany, June 23, 1846. His death occurred at half after eleven o'clock June 29, 1908, just six days after his sixty-second birthday.

He came to this country in the year 1855, arriving on the sixth day of July. On June 1910, 1869 he was married to Miss Nancy Bridges. To them were born ten children, six girls and four boys, all of whom were with him during his illness and the time he passed away.

Deceased was the youngest of a family of ten children. His brothers and sisters are all dead but one, Chris Iske, who lives near the brother's home.

Mr. Iske was taken sick several weeks ago but his conditions was not concidered serious until two weeks before his death.

After he had been confined to his bed a couple of weeks he was taken to Iowa City hoping that either by an operation or treatment he could be made well again. The physicians there decided that it would do no good to operate for the serious liver trouble with which he was afflicted and he was brought home.

He was accompanied to Iowa City by his daughter, Mrs. Fred Tiedje, his son, Charles Iske, and his brother-in-law, Mr. Ava Harris, of Minnesota, who is here making an extended visit in the home.

After he returned, all they could do was to try to make him as comfortable as possible until the end came.

Mr. Iske was a man who had the respect of all. After coming to America he lived in Scott county, Iowa for a short time, then came to Jasper County and for thirty-eight years has lived on the farm where his death occurred. While still living in his native country, he joined the German Lutheran Church.

He was a kind husband and father. He leaves besides his wife and children, sixteen grandchildren. His children are, Mrs. Carrie Scheel, Mrs. Sophia Benskin, Mrs. Margaret Tiedje, Mrs. Effie Hesson, Mrs. Rose Bair, William, Charles and David Iske, and Mae and Lauren, who are still at the parental home.

Those from out of town who came for the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Harris, of Warroad, Minnesota; Mrs. Lena Benskin of Des Moines; Mrs. Nora Burnham, of Sully; Mrs. and Mrs. Rob Linder of Sully; Mr. Thomas Wildman of Nebraska; Mr. Lou Iske, of La Platte; Christ Schmidt of Melbourne; Messrs Henry and Ernest Schmidt and Farwell Willhoft, of Davenport.
