Margaret Helphrey Dies at Hospital; Services Tuesday

Margaret L. Helphrey, 85, of 1000 1st Ave. West, a life long resident of Jasper County, died at 11:25 a.m. Saturday at skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Toland funeral home. The Rev. Cromwell C. Cleveland, pastor of the First Christian church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Miss Helphrey is survived by cousins, including Eula Kendig and Mrs. Elmer Emmack, both of Newton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Burl Helphrey, in 1950.

Miss Helphrey was a member of the Christian Church. The daughter of Peter and Sarah Kennedy Helphrey, she was born August 1, 1875 in Jasper County. ~ The Newton Daily News May 16,1960
