SERVICES FOR J. HELPHREY WEDNESDAY
Spent Entire Life In County; Rites Will Be at Toland’s at Two

Funeral services for J. Burl Helphrey, 73, who died Sunday morning at Skiff Memorial hospital, will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o’clock at Toland Funeral Home.

Mr. Helphrey entered the hospital last Wednesday after he had suffered a stroke.

He was a life-long resident of Jasper county, being born here on Nov. 15, 1876, to Peter and Sarah Helphrey. Mr. Helphrey spent most of his life as a farmer and a factory worker.

Mr. Helphrey was married twice, both wives preceding him in death. He had no children. Survivors are one sister, Miss Margaret Helphrey, and an aunt, Mrs. Margaret Kendig, both of Newton. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.

Services
Rev. E.A. Briggs, pastor of the First Methodist church of which Mr. Helphrey was a member, will officiate at the funeral services. Songs will be “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Good Night and Good Morning” sung by a duet, Mrs. Charles Davis and Mrs. Earl Trout, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Murdy.

In charge of flowers will be Mrs. Clarence Hamelau, Mrs. Frank Fisher and Mrs. Ed Esping. Pallbearers will be Vernal Grant, George Baker, Harry Baker, Clarence Hamelau, Frank Fisher and John Bullington. ~ The Newton Daily News Sept. 5, 1950
