E.M. HELPHREY DIES WEDNESDAY
Helphrey, Earl M.

Earl M. Helphrey, 47, died Wednesday afternoon at 5:25 o'clock at the Skiff Memorial Hospital following an extended illness of heart trouble.

He had been in poor health for some time, but was able to continue with his work as truck driver for the Evans and Westbrook Oil company until four weeks ago. On July 7, he was removed from his home near Newton to the Skiff hospital, where he remained until his death.

Mr. Helphrey was a life time resident of the county, having been born on a farm southwest of Newton on Aug. 28, 1885*, the son of the late L.S. and Mrs. Helphrey. His father preceded him in death on April 13, 1933, and a daughter, Mrs. J. Harold Russell, on Sept 24, 1931.

He was a member of the Palo Alto Grange, in which he took an active interest. Beside his widow, Mrs. Ellen Jane (O'Neal) Helphrey, he is survived by two sons, William L. and E LeRoy; his mother of near Newton, a sister, Mrs. W.A. Moore of Newton and a brother, P.R. Helphrey of West Concord, Minn.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, July 22, at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal church in Newton.

*Transcriber note: Obit has 1885 as birth date and 1938 as death date but states he was 47, if dates are correct, he would have been 53.
