DES MOINES — Evelyn Mae Hays, 84, of Des Moines, formerly of Baxter, died of heart failure Sunday, Nov. 11, at her home.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Baxter. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m.

The daughter of Carl Arthur and Nora Mae Tribby Rankin, she was born April 27, 1917, in rural Baxter. She was married to Floyd Hayes, had lived in Spooner, Wis., in Baxter for 20 years and In Des Moines for three years. She was owner of restaurants in Collins and Baxter and also had operated a beauty shop in Baxter.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Verle and Joyce Lint of Victor; a daughter and son in-law, Joan and Marvin Jensen of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, a brother, Billy Rankin of Melbourne, and three sisters, Thelma Gauch of Baxter, Bonnie Hardy of Colo and Neva Hampton of Rhodes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, five brothers and three sisters.
