FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TODAY FOR VERA HALTERMAN
Vera Effie Halterman (nee Short)Mrs. Vera Effie Halterman , 63, wife of Marion Halterman of 718 Reed Sreet, died Monday afternoon at a Grinnell hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Rich, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiating. Vocal music was provided by Glenn Rich, accompanied by Mrs. James Wilson at the organ.
Pallbearers were Webb Wallace, Ted Reavis, Shirley Sisco, Jack Phillips, Larry Lemke and Kenneth Paul. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
She was the daughter of Henry Frank and Mary Frances Koster Short and was born June 22nd, 1903, at Malcom, one of a family of three children. She attended the Malcom schools and when she was age nine moved with her parents to Grinnell where she later attended Grinnell high school. On June 19th, 1922, at Montezuma, she was united in marriage with Marion Halterman and to this union were born three sons and two daughters: Martin N. Halterman of Newton, Mrs. Glenn (Mildred V.) Garr of Newton, Mrs. Virgil (Dorothy C.) Smool of Newton, Robert F. Halterman of Grinnell, and Donald P. Halterman of Watertown, Wis.
In addition to her sons and daughters, Mrs. Halterman is survived by her husband, Marion, at the family home here; 18 grandchildren; one great grandson; and one brother, Edward Short of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
When in better health, Mrs. Halterman had been employed by Cargill Seed Corn Company and Community Hospital.
