The Newton (IA) Record Thursday, August 10, 1899
Obituary of Dollie Hackney
Hackney, Ruth Almira

Died, at her home near Amboy, Jasper Co., Iowa, August 5, 1899, of consumption, Ruth Almira, (better known as Dollie) youngest daughter of Aaron and Jane Hackney, aged 25 years, 2 months, and 21 days. Deceased was born May 15, 1874 and has lived all her life in the house where she died.

She leaves besides her father, two sisters, Mary and Lizzie, and four brothers, George, Lewis, Charley and Henry, all at home except George, who is at Sheffield, Ill., besides a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her departure; her mother, a sister and a brother having preceded her to the land of rest.

She had been in poor health for over a year, confined to her bed for the last five weeks, suffering more than humanity could bear, yet patiently.

When she realized that her departure was near, she called the family together and asked them to meet her in Heaven, and not to weep for her.

She was a member of the Friend’s Church at Center, also of the Christian Endeavor. During her sickness she was very thoughtful of those who cared for her, considering their comfort as much as her own, expressing thankfulness for the care she received. Her many relatives are comforted only by the thought that she has entered into the rest, which remains for the people of God.

The funeral services were held Sunday at 11 o’clock, conducted by B. G. Nevill, assisted by Mary Roberts, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Center Cemetery.

Death, O word of awful meaning;
Can it be that she is dead!
She on whom our hopes were centered
Who such gladness round us shed.

God called the sweet young life away
To dwell with him above;
O! how hard it is to part
With those we dearly love.

Farewell, our Dollie Dear, farewell.
Thy sweet young voice is stilled;
A place is vacant in our hearts
That never can be filled.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors who gave to them such loving and helpful service during the sickness and death of their beloved daughter and sister.
