PRAIRIE CITY — Jay L. Group, 59, of Prairie City died of heart failure Thursday, Feb. 21, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Service of Remembrance will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The body will be cremated following visitation and burial will be at Casstown Cemetery in Tipp City, Ohio, at a later date. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

The son of Lawrence and Betty (Severs) Group, he was born Aug. 22, 1942, In Miami County, Ohio. He graduated from high school in Casstown, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio State University in 1965 with a degree in animal science. On Sept. 7, 1963, he married Maxine B. Bair in Troy, Ohio. He was employed in livestock management for the Monroe Feed Center and was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. He lived in Ohio until 1976, when he moved to Lamoni. In 1984 he moved to Prairie City.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters and a son-in-law, Milissa and Bruce Gillum of Prairie City, Pam Group of Iowa City and Elizabeth Group of Mt. Vernon, two grandchildren, a sister, Dee Ann Rogers of Englewood, Ohio and his mother of Tipp City, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his father.
