Died – At the home of her parents (Joseph Slaughter and wife) in Mound Prairie Township, on Saturday, October 10, 1891, Emma B., wife of W. S. Norris; aged 35 years and 17 days.
Mrs. Norris was a victim of consumption. She had been ill several months, and part of this time was spent at Colorado Springs, where, for a season the climate seemed to recuperate her failing energies; but the disease had too firm a hold upon her system, and realizing that the end was drawing near she begged to be bought back to the land of her birth, the home of her childhood, that she might once more hear the songs of the birds in the grove at the old farm; look on the faces of her dear friends and feel their tender, loving sympathy as she neared the dark river. She came, and for a while seemed better; but only for a time. The sad ending came last Saturday when, clasped in the arms of her sorrowing companion, the flickering spark of her mortal life went out in a sigh which wafted her soul to the beautiful beyond.
On Sunday they laid her to rest in the little graveyard but a short distance away, after a solemn and impressive funeral service at the home, conducted by Rev. Cozier, of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. Knight, of the Presbyterian church – a large number of her friends being present to pay their last tribute of respect, and mingle with their sympathy words of encouragement and hope for the sorrowing parents, husband and little daughter.
