Mrs. Artie Garren Died Saturday at Colfax
Mrs. Artie Jane Garren, 80, died Saturday at the Hillside Rest Home in Colfax, where she had resided the past 2 ½ years.
The daughter of James S. and Rebecca Carson Jones, she was born July 4, 1882 in Wayne County, Kentucky near Monticello and died July 14, 1962 at the age of 80 years and 10 days.
She was the last member of a family of 8 children, who moved with their parents to Valeria, Iowa in 1887, where she grew to womanhood.
On April 11, 1924, she was united in marriage to James Andrew Garren of Jefferson, Iowa.
Preceding her in death were here husband, parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
After the death of her husband in 1949, Mrs. Garren moved from Polk City, Iowa, and has lived in and near Colfax since that time.
Mrs. Garren was the sister of the late William S. Jones and Miss Elzada Jones of Colfax.
Left to mourn her passing are several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Walters Funeral Home in Colfax, Rev. Neville Clayton of the Christian Church conducted the services.
Mrs. LaVerne Woods sang “Rock of Ages” and “The Old Rugged Cross” and was accompanied by Mrs. Lee Schmitt.
Bearers were Mrs. Garren’s nephews, Paul Jones, Donald Jones, Clyde Hendee, Robert Hendee, Raymond Zachary of Colfax and James Jones of East Moline, Ill.
Flower Committee: Mrs. George Gorman and Mrs. J. w. Holloway.
Interment was in Sams cemetery near Valeria, Iowa
