OBITUARY OF J. C. ELLIS
Ellis, John Calvin

John Calvin Ellis, son of Henry and Harriett Ellis, was born at Johnstown, Penn., May 6, 1856, and died at his home in Greencastle, Iowa, October 22, 1912, aged 56 years, 5 months, 16 days.

When a mere boy he came with his parents to Iowa, stopping at Blue Grass in Scott county, afterwards moving to Jasper county. February 13, 1878, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Showalter, who died Nov. 15, 1894. To this union were born nine children, John H., of Milford, Iowa; Leroy, of Maxwell, Iowa; Mrs. Luella Flint, Lake Park, Iowa; Mrs. Harriet Mills, Somerset, Iowa; Minnie Ellis, Farrar, Iowa, and Mrs. Sylvia Bleakney, Mrs. Golda M. Benson and Harry J. Ellis, of Kellogg - one child dying in infancy.

He was united in marriage in 1894 to Catherine Mullbrook; to this union were born nine children, Martin, William, Jesse, Vina, Walter, Lizzie, Theodore, Cynthia and William, all of whom survive but one, William, who died in infancy. He was a loving father and good neighbor. He leaves his wife and sixteen children, of his own family, also his father, two brothers and one sister.

The funeral services were held at Rushville, Thursday, October 24, conducted by Rev. H. C. Millice, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Rushville cemetery.
