J.R. ELDRIDGE DEAD AN OLD AND RESPECTED RESIDENT OF JASPER CO.
James Richard Eldridge

James R. Eldridge was born July 27, 1835 in Morgan County, Illinois. Came to Jasper County, Iowa, in January 1858, and married Miss Sarah J. Holmes, August 18th, 1858. To this union were born eight children all are living except Lydia A. who was Mrs. J. H. Vaughan of Grinnell. These with their mother and many friends mourn the loss of a dear husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. In the fall of 1864, he with his brother, Logan, bought the farm now one mile north of Sully, which has ever since been their home and where he died, February 28, 1904, after an illness of four weeks. Age 68 years 7 months and 1 day. About the year 1870 he professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, was baptized and joined the Christian church in which he remained a member during its existence. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Thomas Gill of Newton. Text, Psalm 39:13, "O spare me, that I may recover strength before I go hence, and be no more." The services were attended by a large concourse of friends, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Swan cemetery.
