Doane, Robert F.

Robt. F. Doane was born in Rockingham, Vt., in 1847. He came to Iowa in 1869, and died after two day’s illness at his home near Bethel Church, on June 3, 1897. Mr. Doane was married three times. His first marriage was to Josephine Wells on Nov. 17, 1869. To them one son was born, who died in early life. Mrs. Doane died on June 12, 1874. His second marriage was to Laura Craig, on Oct. 20, 1876. To them was born one son, Clarence. Mrs. Doane died on Nov. 16, 1886. Mr. Doane’s third marriage was to Anna Gause on Dec. 27, 1888. She in lonely widowhood mourns the departure of one who is not lost but gone before. Mr. Doane was converted in a revival meeting at Black Oak schoolhouse and united with the M. E. Church at Bethel. He was a faithful and consistent member of his church. He was a good citizen, and many lament his departure. His funeral was preached at Bethel church on June 5th. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjacent. --Rev. Collier.
