DEATH OF MRS. JENNIE DAVIS
Passes Away at the Home of Her Daughter Tuesday Morning
Davis, Jennie (Squires)

Mrs. Jennie Davis, widow of the late John S. Davis, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. G. Russell, on East 2d Street South, about 10 o'clock yesterday morning, October 5th, aged 63 years. While the death of Mrs. Davis was not wholly unexpected, the end came very suddenly and was a great shock to her loved ones.

She had long been a sufferer from heart trouble, and for several weeks was confined to her home. Tuesday morning however, she was unusually bright and cheerful, and at 9 o'clock the postman brought her a couple of letters which she enjoyed very much. About 10 o'clock as her daughter assisted her to turn to a more restful position, the ? heart suddenly ceased its beating and her spirit took its flight to the home above "not built by hands."

Mrs. Jennie Squires Davis was born in Stuben, Indiana, June 14, 1849. She came to Iowa with her mother, Mrs. Lora Squires, March 24, 1868, settling in Buena Vista Township, where in December of the same year she was united in marriage with John S. Davis, who after 37 happy years of married life, died on the 7th of August, 1905. Two daughters survive the parents, Mrs. T. G. Russell of this city and Mrs. Walter Bishop of Buena Vista Township; one daughter, Irena died fourteen years ago. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters - Samuel Squires and Mrs. WillDows of Bondurant and Mrs. Olive Hollinger of Frankfort, Kansas.

Mrs. Davis had been a member of the Christian church from her childhood, and was an ideal Christian wife, mother and friend.

Funeral services were held in the Christian church at 1:30 o'clock this Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. F. Leake and Rev. W. H. Perdew, and were attended by a large number of sorrowing and sympathizing friends. Music was rendered by Mrs. E. F. Leake, Mrs. E. C. Smith, Mr. J. W. Watson and Mr. A. H. Raymond, with Mrs. W. E. Reeves as organist. Two beautiful hymns were sung, "Beckoning Hands" and "Lead Kindly Light," which were great favorites of Mrs. Davis. ? and Mrs. Jesse Monkman, of Kilduff also sang a beautiful duet.

The pall bearers were S. G. Russell, W. E. Denniston, W.L. Dennis, C.D. Dennis, H.J. Bishop and J. W. Rhodes. Interment was made in Hixson Grove Cemetery by the side of her husband, daughter and other loved ones.
