Marshalltown - Charlie Cupp, 74, of Marshalltown, formerly of Newton, died of congestive heart failure Monday, Nov 26, at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:45 a.m. at Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Rex officiating. Burial will be at Metz Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home where family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the V.F.W. Newton Post #1655.

The son of the Rev. Fred and Mary Bell Cousey Cupp, he was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Whitney, Texas. On July 19, 1947, he married Evelyn J. McGee in Ballinger, Texas. He also lived in Taylor, Texas, and Hillsboro, Texas, and moved to Newton in 1948.

Mr. Cupp worked as a machine operator and forklift driver for the Maytag Corporation, retiring in May 1985. He was a member of V.F.W. Newton Post #1655, U.A.W. Retirees Union Local 997 and served in the Pacific Theatre of the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include as son, Charles Cupp of Des Moines; two daughters, Shellie Cupp-Jones and Lorrie Cupp, both of Newton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dora Shields of Oxnard, Calif., O'Letha and Jack Campbell of Odessa, Texas, Ruth Williams of Hobbs, N.M., Genia Mae and Jerry Caldwell of Monahan, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Cupp of Brownwood, Texas and Violet Cupp of Arab, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter and five brothers.
