Sudden Death
Last Thursday morning, Mrs. Mary E. Reynolds, mother of Hayden Reynolds of this city, died suddenly of apoplexy at her home 3 miles northwest of Newton. Her age was about 69 years. She had been in usual good health, and at the time of her death was preparing dinner for the family. She was born in Hart County, Kentucky in 1820 and has resided in Jasper County since 1855. About three years ago she was united in marriage to George W. Logsdon. She leaves 8 sons and 4 daughters to mourn the loss of a good Christian mother. For many years she had been a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Church, and has gone to reap the reward of her labors. The funeral occurred on Friday, and the remains were laid to rest in the Bridges Cemetery. The following lines were handed us by the children:
“Mother we are sad and lonely, Now from you we’re forced to roam, Heaven has claimed our dearest treasure.
Without mother, what is home?
You have watched us in the morning, Cared for us by night and day, But, dear mother, how we miss you, Now that you are far away.
We will try to bear our burden, Trusting in the One above.
For to give us strength and courage Knows He well a mothers love.
Mother, dear, we hope to meet you On that bright, celestial shore.
There we’ll know no hour of parting There’ll be bliss for evermore.”
