GERTRUDE COX, RESIDENT OF NEWBURG, DIES
Mrs. Gertrude Cox, 76, a lifetime resident of the Newburg area, died early this morning (Thursday) at a Marshalltown nursing home. Services for Mrs. Cox will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Estell-Perrin Funeral Home in Marshalltown. The Rev. Wesley Hustad, pastor of the Baptist Temple, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Hickory Grove cemetery near Newburg.
Mrs. Cox had been in failing health for 12 years and was a patient at the Cooper Nursing Home in Marshalltown the past 14 months. She was born Hattie Gertrude Walker, the daughter of Richard and Dorothy Baker Walker, on April 26, 1885, near Newburg. Educated in the Newburg vicinity, she married Elda Louis Cox on February 10, 1904. They lived on a farm near Newburg. He died in 1945.
Mrs. Cox was a member of the Hickory Grove United Brethern church.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Alma; a granddaughter, Ruth Ann Rice; a sister, Hazel Wheeler; and a brother, Roy Walker.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ellis Graham of Bristol, Ind., and Mrs. Ramond Arment of Marshalltown; two sister, Mrs. Glenn Fry of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Clayton Millard of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Glenn Walker of Grinnell; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
