M. Jessie Couch, 83, of 1105 E. 12th St. S. died of heart failure Sunday, Feb. 10, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gene Bryant of First Christian Church and Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Friends may call today after 3 p.m. at the funeral home where family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the First Christian Church Roofing Project and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Raymond R. and Etta May Wickliff Buckley, she was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Peru. She attended Newton schools and on Aug. 14, 1937, she married Roy W. Couch in Newton. She was a homemaker. She and her husband were custodians at the United Presbyterian Church and also cleaned the Newton Building Center. She was a member of First Christian Church for more than 50 years, a member of Pearl Circle, Palo Alto Grange and Kellogg Garden Club. During World War II, she worked at Automatic

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Joe and Bette Couch of Newton, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, two brothers, Arnold Buckley of Des Moines and Burl L, Buckley of Davis City, Mo., four sisters, Joy Christen of Kansas City, Mo., Josephine Bell of Colfax, Mollie Warrick of Valeria and Violet J. Revell of Newton, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters.
