The Newton Record Friday, Newton, IA, November 19, 1897
Cory, Ida May

The two and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Cory, of North Newton, died very suddenly last Friday evening. The little one had first complained on Thursday, but there was nothing in her symptoms to cause uneasiness. Most of Friday she played about the house as usual, but grew worse in the evening, and at 10 o’clock the disease had competed its deadly work. She was the youngest of the household, a pretty, fascinating little one, and of course the idol of all, and her sudden death fall with crushing force on her parents, who surely have the comfort of universal sympathy. The case was reported as diphtheria, but Dr. Hammer, the attending physician, assures us that it had not a single diphtheritic symptom.
