Corr, Dr. Jas. B.On Friday morning, February 19, our esteemed fellow citizen, Dr. Jas. B. Corr, departed this life and entered the Gates Ajar. One more of our old citizens gone.
Dr. Corr was born in Kentucky in 1822 and at the time of his death was a little past seventy-five years of age. His father moved with his family to the southern part of Illinois and became identified with the pioneers of that state. After pursuing the study of medicine and graduating from the N. W. University, Chicago, he returned to his home and settled down to the practice of medicine. In 1851 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hall. This marriage was blessed with eight children, four dying in infancy and four, with the wife and mother, still survive to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.
Dr. Corr moved to Monroe in April 1867, and has ever since identified himself with the best interests of our community.
All his children were present at the funeral, which took place Sunday at 2 o’clock from the house. They were Ed Corr, Mrs. Dr. Shaw, Mrs. Josie Cory and Arthur Corr of Des Moines. The funeral services were conducted by John M. Tool, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Monroe Cemetery.
