SERVICES FRIDAY FOR JOHN COGLEY

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) at the Smith Funeral Home for Mr. John Cogley, 72, of Rte. 3, Grinnell, who died at University Hospital in Iowa City Tuesday evening from burns received on April 24 while burning cornstalks in his farm field northeast of Grinnell.

Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Grinnell, will officiate. Organist will be Mrs. Marvin Nothnagel. Pallbearers will be Leonard Latham, Raymond Larsen, Sheldon Figland, David Anthony, Clair Fenner and Robert Doyle. Flower bearers will be Mr. and Mrs. Norman Sleeuwenhoek and Mr. and Mrs. George Hauser. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell.

The son of John Valentine and Celia Connor Cogley, Mr. Cogley was born Dec. 29, 1896 in Polk County. The family moved to a farm near Chelsea where he attended the rural school near his home. Later, when he was age 15, the family moved to Sheridan Township, Poweshiek County, where he continued his education. He made his home on the farm for the rest of his life.

On Feb. 17, 1920, Mr. Cogley married Clara Evelyn Figland and to this union were born 13 children, all of whom survive. Mr. Cogley was confirmed on May 14, 1909 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama. In addition to farming he had been active as a livestock trader. Survivors include his wife, Clara, 13 children - - - Mrs. Alvin (Betty) Bryan of Davenport, Mrs. Dale (Eleanor) Mason of Tama, Mrs. Clair (Bernice) Mitelman and Mrs. Lavern Kelm of Grinnell, Mrs. Harold (Joan) Hopkinson of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Danskin of Marshalltown., Clarence Cogley of Grinnell, James Cogley of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. James (Marilyn) Copeland of Jefferson, Dr. Keith Cogley of Colfax, Mrs. John (Patricia) Lang of Grinnell, Dr. Allen Cogley of Evanston, Ill., and LeRoy Cogley of Santa Monica, Calif.; 33 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Florence Lucas of Grinnell, and one brother, James Cogley of Jacksonville, Fla.
