Daniel Clement Dies of Stroke Friday Night
Daniel R. Clement died at his home at 325 West Eighth street South at 11:40 Friday night following a two weeks' illness.
Mr. Clement was a member of the Methodist church and The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club and had attended this year's party on Sept. 9.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. David Clement, Iowa born Apr. 3, 1870 in the Metz neighborhood, and had been a resident of Jasper county all of his life, with the exception of four years spent in Nebraska. He came to Newton 10 years ago from Mingo where he had been engaged in farming and railroading.
He was united in marriage to Miss Ida E. Shaffer, Feb. 17, 1897 in Fremont, Neb. The couple celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary at their home last February.
Surviving relatives include the widow, six children, Mrs. William (Thelma) Voss of Waukeegan, Ill.; Mrs. L. O. (Grace) Hood, Rock Island, Ill.; Robert E.; Cecil; Mrs. Paul (Minnie) Guffey and Mrs. George (Floma) Boitnott, all of Newton. Fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, and a brother also survive.
Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Dr. E. A. Briggs will officiate. Burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery. Mr. Clement was preceded in death by two daughters. Mrs. John (Violet) Lazear and Mrs. Lloyd (Imogene) Robinson. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, September 27, 1947
