Obituary of Mrs. C. A. Carper
Carper, Catharine (Ritter)

Mrs. C. A. Carper died at her home late residence in Seattle, Washington, Dec. 28, 1898, of paralysis, after only a few days illness. She was 70 years of age and was born in Stark County, Ohio in 1828. In 1855 she came to Newton, Iowa, with her husband, Jacob Carper, and settled on the farm 1˝ miles north of Colfax. She moved to Seattle with three of her children in March 1889, where she has since resided. Four of her children are still living, Clara Kirschner, of Columbus, Ohio, Mary E. Battles of Newton, Iowa, T. E. and Dr. P. D. of Dawson City, Alaska, one grandchild Winnie Hinton of Seattle.

She joined the Christian Church at the age of 15 years and has been a true and devoted member ever since. She is a sister of the late Wm. and Phillip Ritter and Mrs. Wm. Gibford, all of Newton.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the M. P. Church of Seattle, Jan. 1, 1899. Interment Monday at 11 o’clock in Mount Pleasant Cemetery by the side of her daughter, Mrs. Katie Hinton. Services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. I. N. Smith. Farewell, mother, till we meet you where parting is no more.
