Frank G. Carlson

Frank Glen Carlson, 66, former Colfax business man, died Tuesday, January 26, 1971 at the Des Moines General Hospital.

The son of William Fredrick and Hilda Norling Carlson, he was born June 27, 1904, at Stratford, Iowa.

He was a 1922 graduate of the Stratford High School and afterward attended the Capitol City Commercial College, graduating from there in 1925. He was active in athletics, playing on the C.C.C.C. basketball team and was also a semi-pro baseball player.

Mr. Carlson was in the retail clothing business for 40 years. He moved from Des Moines to Colfax in 1947 where he operated the Carlson Department Store until 1966. At the time of his death he was employed as an auditor by the State of Iowa Sales and Use Tax Department.

He was married to Lois Ivadell Spencer on December 31, 1927, at Clarion.

Surviving is his wife, Ivadell; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Vernona) Nelson of Overland Park, Kansas and Mrs. Douglas (Ann) Swearingen of Marshalltown; a son Steven Carlson of Lake City; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Claude Deo of Tucson, Arizona and Mrs. P.M. Banks of Fillmore California.

Mr. Carlson was a member of Adelphic Lodge No. 509 of Des Moines and a Past Master, serving as Master in 1950. He was the Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star and a past president of the Colfax Chamber of Commerce.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 29, 1971 at 2 p.m. in Walters Funeral Home in Colfax. The Rev. Roy Allen Wilson, minister of the Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Heart Fund will be accepted.
