Services Monday For Mrs. Keith
Funeral services for Mrs. Nathan (Marie) Keith, 67, prominent in church and civic affairs in Newton, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Morgan-Loehr funeral home.
The Rev. Robert Watson, pastor of the First Congregational church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union cemetery.
Mrs. Keith, who entered the Skiff Memorial hospital February 18 died at 10 a.m. Friday.
She is survived by her husband, Nathan Keith; a son, Walter Keith of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Kay) Hodgson of Newton and Mrs. M. O. (Geraldine) Messenger of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; seven grandchildren; and a brother, William Dennis, of Los Angeles, Calif.
The daughter of Bruce and Stella Wilson Dennis, she was born June 16, 1892 in Des Moines.
Mrs. Keith attended Des Moines schools and Capitol City Commercial college.
She was married to Nathan Keith June 23, 1915 at Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Keith moved to Newton in 1925.
Mr. Keith operated a jewelry store in Newton for many years and is a former district governor of the Rotary club.
A member of the First Congregational church, Mrs. Keith was a member of the church choir for 30 years, and was past president of Plymouth Guild.
She served as chairman of the League of Women Voters, past chairman of the Community Chest, served as president and treasurer of the Newton Woman’s club, was a member of the Aloha club and was chosen “Woman of the Month.”
She served as secretary to her husband during his tenure as district governor of the Rotary club and traveled thru out the state.
