Richard L. Bullock, age 70 of Kellogg, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service for Richard and his mother, Mary Crum, who died on Friday, July 26, 2019, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. He will be escorted to the cemetery by the American Legion Riders, who will provide military honors. A luncheon will follow at the Kellogg American Legion.

Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Memorials may be designated to the Kellogg American Legion, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Richard Lee Bullock was born on November 5, 1948 in Grinnell, Iowa to Mary Thorpe and Harold Bullock. He graduated high school from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri and went on to attend two years of college at Wentworth, graduating with an associate degree in Business. After graduating from Wentworth, he entered the U.S. Navy and served for one year.

Richard was united in marriage to Gail Frevert on March 18, 1972 in Lawrence, Kansas and to this union were born three children: Jessica, Zachary and Rita. They were later divorced.

Richard was a skilled wood worker who made cabinets and furniture. He is most well-known for his willow furniture, which he made and sold through his company, Heartland Willow. He was an active member of the American Legion, where he served as Commander of the 5th District of Iowa and held many positions in the Kellogg American Legion and helped to create the American Legion Riders in Kellogg. He was active member of the Kellogg Christian Church. Richard was a friend to all who knew him and was always ready and willing to help others, never asking for anything for himself.

Richard is survived by his children: Jessica Bullock, Zachary (Tracy) Bullock, and Rita (Mike) Lavender; eight grandchildren: Brooklynn, Milo, Benjamin, Jayven, Charlotte, Sierra, Logan, and Brenna; siblings, George (Dee) Crum, Laura (Daryl) Hanawalt, and John (Carol) Crum; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Crum on Friday, July 26, 2019; father, Harold Bullock; grandparents; aunt and uncle, Ken and Barb Thorpe; uncles, Robert J Bullock, Sr. and Lee Roy Bullock, Jr.; aunts, Margaret Bullock Leach and Mary Jane Bullock McMullin; and cousin, Robert J Bullock, Jr. ~ The Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, Iowa 24 July 2019.
