Mary was united in marriage to Harold Bullock in June of 1946 and to this union was born a son, Richard Lee Bullock. They were later divorced. She married Larry Crum on October 28, 1955 and to this union three children were born, George, Laura, and John. She taught school in Jasper County rural schools for seven years before moving to Lawrence, Kansas in 1956, where Mary owned and operated a nursing home for 13 years. After selling the nursing home, she owned and operated a ceramics business in Lawrence. Mary and Larry moved back to the family farmhouse where she was born outside of Kellogg, Iowa in 1973. The couple divorced in 1973. She owned and operated a café in Kellogg until she retired.

Mary was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and served on their district committee, the Kellogg Christian Church, Kellogg City Council, Kellogg Garden Club, and the Kellogg Legion Auxiliary. She liked to travel and took trips to China, Alaska, Nova Scotia, Pakistan, and all throughout the United States. She was an avid gardener and spent her free time reading, and later in life, cross-stitching. Mary was known for her commonsense approach to life and direct approach toward people and situations.

She is survived by her children: George (Dee) Crum of LeGrand, Iowa, Laura (Daryl) Hanawalt of Newton, Iowa, and John (Carol) Crum of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Jessica, Zach, Rita, Roman, Aleks, Kiersten, and Conner; and eight great grandchildren.
