Jennie was born on May 8, 1929 to Henry and Alice Nikkel Terlouw on the family farm near Sully, in Jasper County. She was raised in the Sully area and attended Sudlow Country School near her home. For many years, she lived on the family farm near Sully and later moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell. Most recently, she was a resident of the Comfort House in Pella.

After losing her mother at a young age, Jennie took responsibility for taking care of her family, and she continued to do so her whole life. Her love was great and her devotion to her family’s well-being was evident. She was the family matriarch. She was a life-long homemaker, very meticulous with everything she did, and very fashion conscious. Jennie held a passion for cooking and was considered a very good cook. She was “famous” for several dishes, which included canned and preserved produce from the family garden. She also enjoyed traveling, including many day trips and going to points of interest around the state, and attending social events.

Jennie is survived by her brother, Bob Terlouw of Grinnell; her sister-in-law, Lois VanderSchel of Pella; her nieces and nephews, Ronda Lanser, Cynthia Terlouw, Dennis (Gail) Terlouw, Kevin (Kelly) Terlouw, Doug (Lori) Terlouw, Rashele (Phil) Nikkel, and Maren (Dave) Scharf; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and their spouses: Hank and Grace Terlouw, Gerritt Terlouw, James and Donna Terlouw, and Ollie Terlouw; one sister, Marie Terlouw; and one sister-in-law, Ella Mae Terlouw.
