Staff Sergeant Casey Jay “CJ” Roland, 5 Nov 1990 – 26 June 2019. SSgt Roland was born in Brenham, TX to Charles Jay and Tonya LeeAnn Roland, originally of Kansas and Iowa, respectively. SSgt Roland enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2009 as an 0311 Rifleman. The same year, he married Laura Alejandra Bocardo of Round Rock, TX; they gave birth to a son, Kyle James Roland, in 2016.

Over a decade in the Marine Corps, SSgt Roland served with units including 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines in Kaneohe Bay, HI; Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base Hawaii; Fleet Antiterrorism Security Forces in Yorktown, VA; and most recently, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC. He deployed worldwide, including to southern Afghanistan (twice), Japan (twice), Cuba (twice), Spain, and Morocco. He served variously as an infantry fire team leader, squad leader, and platoon sergeant. A dedicated instructor, SSgt Roland trained fellow Marines in marksmanship, weaponry, martial arts, combat lifesaving, and helicopter rappelling, among other subjects. He also served as an adviser and trainer to foreign special operations forces. SSgt Roland’s individual decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Ribbon with two stars, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon with two stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon, the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with four stars, and the NATO International Security Assistance Force Ribbon.

SSgt Roland is survived by his wife, Laura Roland, and their son Kyle, of Round Rock, TX; and his parents, Tonya and Charles Roland. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kyle Ray Roland.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a recitation of the Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9th, at Beck Funeral Home, Austin/Round Rock. A Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10th, at St. William Catholic Church, Round Rock, with interment following at 1:00 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen. ~ The Beck Funeral Home, Austin/Round Rock, TX 26 June 2019.
