Jeanette, the daughter of Reno and Darlene (Jacobs) Rethmeier, was born on May 8, 1946 in Marshalltown. She grew up north of Newton and at the age of five met a boy named Dwight Grimes that lived just a short distance away. Jeanette graduated from Newton High School in 1964. While in high school and shortly after, Jeanette worked at Thomberts. On July 17, 1965 at the St. John’s Church, Jeanette was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart and that same boy she met at the age of five, Dwight Grimes. They were blessed with two children, Jared and Marcy. Jeanette was a homemaker and farmer’s wife, raising her children and working on the farm. She also worked seasonally at the Maytag Dairy Farm and at Rock Communications.

Jeanette was active in her church and through the years had attended St. John’s, Zoar, and Wittemberg. At Wittemberg she was involved with teaching children and adult Sunday School, organizing Vacation Bible School, and serving on the church board. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau Women. Jeanette loved cooking, baking, and being with her family.

Jeanette is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dwight Grimes of Newton; two children, Jared (Renae) Grimes of Altoona and Marcy (Brian) Streich of Kansas City, Missouri; her grandchildren, Savannah and Aiden Grimes and Brandon, Evan, and Jacob Streich; and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 16 July 2019.
