Gary Allan Clemon, the son of Lyle Warren and Eleanor Bethene (Severson) Clemon, was born May 19, 1945 in Lake Placid, New York. He received a business degree from the University of Iowa.
On October 30, 1965, Gary was united in marriage with Dianne Charlene Anderson. Gary worked as a licensed insurance agent for over 45 years. He “retired” from the Clemon – Maki Insurance Agency in 2015.

Gary was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Newton Noon Kiwanis, Newton Elks Lodge, Newton Country Club, American Legion, Post #111, V.F.W. Post #1655, Newton YMCA, Independent Insurance Agents Association, Jasper County I Club, Vietnam Veteran’s Association, Newton Jaycees, and the Newton Cardinal Booster Club. Gary was a planner and was always known for having everything set for any party or event he lined up. Gary enjoyed golfing, Iowa Hawkeye sports, fishing, tailgating, grilling, Civil War history and collecting jokes.

Gary died on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at his home in Newton. He was 74 years old. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Matthew.
Those left to honor Gary’s memory include his wife, Dianne; his daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Thomsen; his son, Jeff (Karin) Clemon; his grandchildren, Adriana, Anders, Braedon, Eliza, Emma, Jaycie and Zachary; his two brothers, Warren (Debbie) Clemon and Neal Clemon; and his sister, Carol (Jim) Sanders.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may be designated to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Legion, Newton Post #111 and may be left at the church or at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 14 July 2019.
