JUNE 15, 1948 - JUNE 19, 2019

Thomas Edward Russell, 71, died of complications of pneumonia on June 19, 2019, at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance, Ft. Worth, Texas.

Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara Lenz Russell, of Fort Worth, Texas; his son, Matthew and daughter-in-law Jeanette, of Grapevine, Texas; his beloved grandchildren, Maisie and Alistair of Grapevine, Texas; his sister Linda Russell Lee and a nephew and niece, Teddy and Annie Lee of California and a nephew Andrew Lenz of Coppell, Texas.

Tom was born on June 15, 1948, in Greenville, South Carolina, to parents Tom and Jessie (Gaines) Russell. He graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and attended graduate school at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He married Barbara in Germantown Hills, Illinois, in 1970. They lived in Newton, Iowa before moving to Texas in 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tom's favorite times were with his family and especially with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and gave him untold joy.

Tom was an active member of the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc. (GALT), in Dallas, Texas. He and Barbara were volunteers for transporting, fostering, and supporting fundraising efforts. He loved his own dogs and extended that love to rescued Greyhounds awaiting adoption. In addition, Tom was an avid golfer and never missed a chance to be on the greens.

His ashes will be inurned at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center during a private family service. A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday 7/20/19 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bessie Mitchell House, 411 Ball St., Grapevine, Texas. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tom's life.
