To Hold Baker Rites Friday

Rev. Paul Becker to Conduct Services at Christian Church Brial in Local Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. William Baker, who died yesterday afternoon after a short illness will be conducted at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Christian Church, with Rev. Paul E. Becker in charge of the rites. Burial will be made in the Newton cemetery.

Mrs. Baker was a pioneer resident of Newton, having made her home here for the past 50 years. She was a member of the Christian Church, and had a wide circle of friends. Mrs. Baker was born in Ohio December 16, 1844, and at the time of her death was nearly 81 years old.

Surviving her are here step-children, George, Henry and Bert Baker of this city, and Mrs. Lena Thornton of Phoenix, Ariz. One son, Harlan Conley, preceded the mother in death a number of years ago.

Members of the Loyal Women’s class of the Christian church, of which Mrs. Baker was a member, will meet at the church at 2:15 and attend the funeral services in a body. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton Iowa, October 1, 1925, page 1

Baker Funeral Services Held

Rites Conducted at Christian Church This Afternoon for Well Known Woman.

Funeral services for Mrs. William Baker, who died Wednesday were held at 2:30 this afternoon at the Christian church, with Rev. Paul E. Becker in charge of the services. Pall bearers were E.C. Ogg, R.C. Daly, H. S. Morrison, Oscar Wheatcraft, Henry Bergman, and E.C. Smith. Burial was made in the Newton cemetery.

Mrs. Baker had been a resident of this community for half a century and was among the well known women of the city. Surviving her are three stepsons, George, Henry, and Bert Baker and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Lena Thornton of Phoenix, Ariz. One son, Harlan Conley, died a number of years ago. Two sisters, Mrs. John Montgomery of Newton and Mrs. John Betts of Long Beach, Calif., and newphew William Montgomery, and great-newphew John Montgomery also survive. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Oct. 2, 1925.
