JANUARY 14, 1927 ~ NOVEMBER 21, 2018 (AGE 91)

Robert LeRoy Adams, 91, of Alpena passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born on his parent’s farm in Jasper County, Newton, Iowa on January 14, 1927 to the late John and Laura (Paulson) Adams by midwife Emma Dammeier. He attended school and worked on the Maytag Dairy Farm until enlisting in the United States Navy in May of 1944 during WWII. Serving on the LST140 and LST282 until his honorable discharge in June of 1946. Working as a journey man in the electrical field, he received his license and owned his own business until 1952. On August 16, 1952 he married Daisy Meeker and moved to Denver Colorado where he worked for Rock Flats Atomic Plant and later for Beech Aircraft from 1955 until his retirement in 1986. Taking part in the Apollo 11 Mission, where he received a medallion containing metal from the Apollo 11 and the Eagle that took astronauts, Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on their historic Apollo 11 Mission that resulted in the first landing on the moon. Daisy preceded him in death on June 17, 1991. Together they enjoyed elk hunting and trout fishing. He was a member of the IBEW, receiving a 65-year certificate and was a member of the Elks from 1948 in lodges in Newton, Boulder, Crawford, Alpena, and Tawas. Traveling and spending winters in Casa Grande, AZ, he met and on October 11, 1997 married Margaret (Beaudoin) Kieliszewski at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alpena. Having lived in Eckert, CO until a battle with breast cancer together they moved to Alpena in 2005 to be nearer Margaret’s family.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; 6 children, Katherine Meharg, Cynthia (Gene) Domrase, Gerald (Debbie) Kieliszewski, Michael (Becky) Kieliszewski, twins, Steven (Erin) Kieliszewski, Stewart (Christina) Kieliszewski; 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; sisters-in-laws, Geraldine Wyman, Genevieve (Robert) Albrecht; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael Meharg; 5 siblings, Russel (Lorriane) Adams, Hollis (Elva) Adams, Virgil (Grace) Adams, Clyde Adams and Florence (Glen) Koppin.

Memorial visitation will take place Sunday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until time of the memorial service at 6 p.m. with Rev. James Fitzpatrick officiating, followed by military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
