Funeral services for Max Carl Schmiedeke Jr., 57, of 801 E. 14th St. N., a resident of Newton since March 1949, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Mooseheart or the American Heart Association will be accepted.
He died Sunday evening at his home.
Survivors are two sons, David at home, and Scott of Fort Smith, Ark., a daughter, Diane Schmiedeke of Tampa, Fla.; a granddaughter, his parents, Max M. and Gertrude Schmiedeke Sr. of Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Jim (Maxine) McMahon of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, May 22, 1984.
Mr. Schmiedeke was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Maytag Management Club, Maytag Employee Council, Newton Library Board, Moose Lodge, and Newton Post 111 of the American Legion.
An employee of the accounting department of the Maytag Co., Mr. Schmiedeke had served in the Navy following World War II.
The son of Max M. and Gertrude Lemke Schmiedeke Sr., he was born Sept. 21, 1928 in Wabeno, Wis., was graduated from Oshkosh (Wis.) High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines.
He was married to Grace Mary Miller Sept. 24, 1949 in Newton.
