G. V. Brock Dies Today, Services Set

G. Vernon Brock, 71, 711 S. 3rd Ave. W. resident of Newton since 1962, died Thursday morning at Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. Harold Harryman, associate minister of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Friday.

Surviving are his widow, Hertha; a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Coy of Cedar Rapids, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brock was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton, the Masonic Lodge of Prairie City and the American Legion Post at Prairie City.

He was employed for a number of years in Chicago, Ill., and Philadelphia, Pa., as a civil engineer.

The son of George Adam and Valura Mae Marshall Brock, he was born Aug. 28, 1898, near Monroe and attended Prairie City high school. He received a degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University at Ames.

He was an army veteran of World War I.

He was married to Hertha Hencken April 4, 1927, at Chicago., Ill.

Mr. Brock had resided on a farm in the Colfax area before moving to Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, June 4, 1970.
