RITES HELD FOR EDWARD BREEDEN

Lee Edward Breeden, 62, of Rte. 3, Grinnell, died Sunday Feb. 7, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grinnell United Methodist Chruch, with the Rev. Kenneth Wallace of the Newburg-Chester Parish officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalists were Virgil and Ruth Palmer and Delmar and Norma Sharp.
Pallbearers were Paul Bergmann, James, John, Jeffrey, Kevin and Edward Breeden, Larry Carnes, James Duncan and Michael Hubbard. Honorary bearers were Bette Andrews, Vince Blank, Benny Blink, Jim Cook, Dean Krueger, Bob Lewis, Leo Maynard, Bill Rusk and Mark Struder.
Graveside rites were conducted by local and state American Legion posts, with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in rural Jasper County. He was the son of James and Florence Glen McCulley Breeden and was born on Dec. 29, 1925, at Newburg. He was a graduate of Newburg High School. During World War II he servied with the U. S. Army Air Corps. He was married to Ruth Raber on Oct. 3, 1948, in Newburg. The couple farmed sougheast of Newburg. Mr. Breeden also worked at Grinnell Feed and Grain and Agrico and was a bus driver for the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District.
He was a member of the Newburg United Church of Christ, the Farm Bureau, the Forty and Eight of Newton and the Central Committe of the Chester Township Republican party. He was an active member of the Newburg American Legioin Post and was past department commander of the Iowa American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth of Grinnell; his children, Christine Carnes of Montezuma, James of Estes Park, Colo., John of Grinnell, Sandra Bergmann of Virginia Beach, Va.., Jeffrey of Grinnell, Beverly Duncan of Newton, Kevin of Grinnell, Edward of Fort Dix, N. J., and Jill Hubbard of Fort Dodge; and 19 grandchildren.
