Burton Breckenridge, 87, of 200 S. 8th Ave. E. died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease Monday. Feb. 11, at USA Healthcare Newton in Newton. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gene Bryant of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday after 1 p.m. at the funeral home where family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the USA Healthcare Newton's Activity Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Alexander and Addie (Myers) Breckenridge, he was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Clemons. He married Adine F. Nolin on June 20, 1936 in Knoxville. Mr. Breckenridge worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown as a machinist and also had been a truck driver for years. He was a longtime resident of Newton and a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Peggy of Gilman, Burton Jr. and Linda and Brad and Brenda, all of Newton, Gary and Sherry of Sacramento, Calif., Ron and Karla of Pella and Doug and Debbie of Dallas, Texas, a daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Charles Dibble of Independence, Mo., 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Maisy of St. Louis, Mo. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, seven brothers and a sister.
