COLFAX -- Opal Sage, 93, of Colfax died Monday, June 28, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Colfax with the Rev. Jill Flyr officiating. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held today from 2 until 8 p.m. at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax where the family will be present from 6:30 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be designated to Jasper County Hospice, or to the Colfax United Methodist Church.

The daughter of James M. and Margaret (Gibson) Brown, she was born Dec. 15, 1910, in Edgar Springs, Mo. She graduated from Mingo High School with the class of 1930. On Aug. 10, 1933, she married Sam Sage Jr. in Osceola. She moved from Colfax to Briarcliff Assisted Living in Altoona in August 2003. She was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three grandchildren and their spouses, Regina and John McLaughlin of Colfax, Jodi Atwood of Minneapolis, Minn., and Scott and Dawn Atwood of Colfax; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two children, Jackie Sage and Judy (Sage) Atwood; one brother, Howard Brown; and one sister, Alice Evans. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Wednesday, June 30, 2004
