MANKATO, Minn. -- Louise S. Bonawitz, 79, of Mankato, Minn., formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, June 8, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato, Minn.

Visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home in Mankato, Minn., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

The daughter of John and Clara (Frazier) Smith, she was born June 14, 1924, in Newton. She attended school in Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1942. On May 17, 1947, she married John Bonawitz. She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She also performed volunteer work for Meals on Wheels. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing piano.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Ross Langsjoen of St. Cloud, Minn., Connie and Joe Elfert of North Mankato, and Janis and Tom Larson of Maple Grove; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Noreen of Crystal, Minn; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Thursday, June 10, 2004
